Mentors

We currently have around forty mentors that volunteer and support the students on a weekly basis. We have continued to maintain excellent links with Thomas Rotherham College who provide us with the majority of our learning mentors. The students from Thomas Rotherham College give the pupils excellent support and we will be sad to see many of them leave us in the Summer as they head off to University. This however will allow us to give opportunities to other people who wish to come and volunteer as a learning mentor. We have already recruited a number of volunteers from Thomas Rotherham College who will be able to mentor students next year!

We have some mentors from the wider community such as retired people and even former Try Line pupils, however one of our aims for the coming terms is to diversify our volunteering base. This will mean that we will need to forge partnerships with other community groups and strengthen our links with Voluntary Action Rotherham

We are aiming to develop our mentors by offering them ASDAN accredited peer mentoring or volunteering action awards. Along with this, all of our mentors aged 16-25 will be encouraged to sign up with V involved to gain recognition for their commitment whilst volunteering at Try Line. Some of the mentors that have been with Try Line for many terms have also been given places on First Aid Courses. We have continued to support students on work and education placements from Business Enterprise South Yorkshire and Sheffield Hallam University.

Volunteering as a mentor and supporting young people can be a valuable and rewarding experience. If you feel you may be interested please download some of the information below or call Richard Sanderson on 01709 388 547 for an informal chat, or alternatively e-mail me via sandy@trylinecentre.co.uk
