Summer School

During the summer holidays the rugby club and ourselves organise a healthy lifestyles based summer school.

This was is over several weeks with up to 30 youngsters attending each week.

The youngsters come from both primary and secondary schools in the area and from some of our junior sports clubs.

Along with centre staff and volunteers, some of whom volunteer with us in the evenings, we also have the help of some Titans players to put the youngsters through their paces with some Titans style coaching sessions.

Visits are arranged to venues such the English Institute of Sport, Magna and Don Valley Stadium where the staff there kindly give us an "access all areas" tour round the facilities.

We also have visits from guests such as boxing legend Herol

"Bomber" Graham and our colleagues from South Yorkshire Police.

The youngsters love training with Bomber who ensures everyone gets involved proving him to be an excellent role model for them.

PC Paul Grey and colleagues from the Police entertain and educate the yongsters in an abundance of ways. They provide uniforms both old and new, fetch along support vehicles, run computer based police training software and award a certificate of merit to each of the youngsters at the end of the course.

After a marvelous healthy lunch back at the club the youngsters work on a video diary using the footage they had taken with both our still and video cameras.

At the end of the week a presentation is held, parents and guests are invited, where the youngsters receive certificates and prizes and proudly show their video diaries.
